Our Impact
After Dark Studio operates on a small scale, intentionally. We make decisions that we can defend on a spreadsheet and in a mirror.
Materials and certification
Every fabric in our collection is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. This is the strictest certification in the textile industry — it tests every component of a finished garment (including threads, linings, prints, and accessories) for substances that could be harmful to health.
When we use PU leather, we use a high-grade coated fabric rather than PVC. PU is more durable, ages more gracefully, and does not release chlorine-based plasticisers as it breaks down.
Production
Our corsetry and bodysuits are cut and sewn in small ateliers in Portugal. We visit twice a year. We pay above the local living wage. We don't do minimum-order contracts that push inventory risk onto our makers — we buy what we need, when we need it.
Packaging
Plain unbranded mailers, recycled FSC-certified card boxes, paper tape, water-based ink. No plastic film on the outside. Tissue paper is unbleached. The invoice is on the inside, never on the outside.
What we don't measure
We don't run on a "carbon offset" subscription, and we won't use that as a marketing line. Our footprint is small, and we think the honest thing is to keep it small rather than pay to make it look smaller.
How we give back
Each year we donate 1% of revenue to a small set of organisations working on women's reproductive health access in Asia. We list the recipients on this page at the end of each calendar year.
